All the rooms are basic furnished but in extraordinary condition, with solid pine bunk beds, each has a personal reading light, privacy curtain and fresh clean linen when you check in. The bathrooms are also in good condition. The hotel has got a "dining room" where continental breakfast is served. They also have several kitchens, plenty of cookers, microwaves and even enough fridge space to store any leftovers from your creation. To aid digestion, the hostel will even do the washing up! It is a grade 2 listed building and was originally constructed in 1935 as the Nurses Home for the Royal Masonic Hospital which lies to the rear. It was designed by a famous Architect, Sir Bernard Tate who was well known for designing hospitals. When the hospital was first opened it was the forerunner of a new way of treating patients. The building was paid for by the Masons and all the plaques on the doors show the names and badges of the Masonic Lodges who provided the money for the construction. The hospital was opened by King George IV and Queen Mary. The lobby is spacious and it is separate from the main dormitory area. The hostel operate on a swipe card entry (only guests have access to floors where the rooms are), full time recorded CCTV and our smart card payment system means there's no need for cash. Even the small supermarket at the hotel operate on a prepaid smart card system. This is an extraordinary property, located in a peaceful location just outside the centre of London but well connected by tube to the heart of the City. It is ideal for backpackers or those travelling with a budget. This is one of the best budget accommodation in London, with extraordinary facilities: pub with beer garden, shelter for hiring bikes, gym, small supermarket, internet point, kitchens and even a traveldesk to arrange your day trip into London or excursions in the UK. Plenty of CCTV cameras make the place ideal for those travelling on their own or with friends. Family with small children are also welcome. (02/07RP)
